Três pessoas foram levadas para exames em um hospital depois que um voo da Ryanair fez um pouso forçado, após alerta de despressurização da cabine. O avião, com 134 passageiros a bordo, partiu de Bergamo, Itália na quarta-feira e deveria aterrissar no aeroporto de East Midlands, em Leicestershire, Inglaterra, mas acabou sendo desviado para o aeroporto de Frankfurt, na Alemanha. Autoridades alemãs informaram que outras 10 pessoas apresentaram ferimentos leves.
"Você podia ver os olhos arregalados. As pessoas estavam em pânico, mas não gritaram ou choraram", ela disse. "E era possível ouvir o capitão dizendo: "Mayday, mayday" ("emergência, emergência"). repetidamente enquanto a aeronave perdia altitude rapidamente. Pensei que minha hora tinha chegado".
"Chorando de dor"
A companhia Ryanair afirmou que o capitão identificou o alerta de despressurização e desceu de 31.000 pés (cerca de 10.300 metros) para 10.000 pés, como recomendado. Melvin Frater afirmou: "Não sei por quanto tempo estávamos caindo, mas posso dizer que foi rápido por causa da pressão em nossos ouvidos. Aí as crianças começaram a chorar de dor".
O avião aterrissou ao meio-dia (hora local) e os passageiros foram levados para Inglaterra em outro voo.
Recentemente foi anunciado que um Boeing 737-800 da Ryanair sofreu descompressão no dia 6 de fevereiro quando voava de Bergamo para Charleroi, na Bélgica. Em um comunicado, a Ryanair se desculpou pelo incidente de quarta-feira.
O avião foi examinado e a autoridade alemã que investiga acidentes com aviões informou que pode levar até um ano para descobrir as causas do incidente. Um porta-voz da entidade afirmou que três pessoas deram entrada em um hospital para exames mas não apresentaram nada sério. Dez pessoas que tiveram ferimentos mais leves não precisaram ser levadas ao hospital.

The Irish Air Accident Investigation Unit (AAIU) released their final report concluding the cause of the serious incident was:Bearing swage wear because of workmanship escapement and improper tool usage during component manufacture.
Analysis of the flight data recorder showed that the vibrations were greatest at 300 KIAS. The aircraft manufacturer thus stipulated inspections of the left hand and right hand stabilizers, elevators and tab control mechanisms. Those inspections showed two frame assemblies were broken from the left hand elevator tab mechanism assembly, accelerated wear was found to the elevator tab mechanism believed to be the result of the oscillation of the elevator tab.
As result of initial findings an Emergency Air Worthiness Directive was released by the FAA which contained the words: "This condition, if not corrected, could result in a loss of aircraft control and structural integrity."
Following repairs the aircraft was ferried back to London Stansted,EN (UK) for further tests.
Following inspection results of other aircraft as well as another occurrence of elevator tab vibrations reported by another operator the FAA released another Airworthiness Directive introducing new inspection requirements. The manufacturer were in the process of redesigning the tab mechanism.
The manufacturer determined that wear of the bearing swage ring at the aft attach lugs of the elevator tab control mechanism resulted in accelerated degradation of the joint, after which the bearing could migrate out of the lug or cause complete lug separation resulting in severe vibration of the elevator tab. The bearing swage had worn because of "workmanship escapement and improper tool usage" that would have occurred during component manufacture.
