Um avião da companhia Delta Airlines procedente de Istambul fez um pouso de emergência no aeroporto de Dublin nesta segunda-feira, depois que o piloto assinalou a presença de um objeto suspeito, mas a polícia não encontrou nada a bordo, informaram as autoridades.
A aeronave, um Boeing 767-300 que decolou de Istambul, se dirigia ao aeroporto de JFK em Nova York, com mais de 200 passageiros e tripulantes a bordo quando o piloto pediu autorização para aterrissar na capital irlandesa depois de ter encontrado algo suspeito a bordo, indicou a Dublin Airport Authority (DAA).
Quando aterrissou, foi recebido por bombeiros e escoltado para um local afastado dos terminais. "Todos os passageiros permaneceram a bordo. A polícia entrou no avião e falou com o piloto", acrescentou o porta-voz. "A ameaça foi descartada", disse ainda.
O incidente aconteceu apenas algumas horas depois que um problema técnico obrigou um A330-300 da Virgin Atlantic, que se dirigia para Orlando (Flórida) com 314 pessoas a bordo, dar meia volta e aterrissar de emergência no aeroporto de Gatwick. Quatro pessoas sofreram ferimentos leves, segundo a companhia.

A Delta Airlines Boeing 767-300, registration N189DN performing flight DL-73 from Istanbul (Turkey) to New York JFK,NY (USA) with 208 passengers and 11 crew, was enroute near Dublin when the crew reported an unidentified item in a lavatory raising security concerns and requested to divert to Dublin to drop the item off and have security have a look at the aircraft. The crew requested priority. The aircraft entered a holding pattern to descend for the approach and landed safely on Dublin's runway 10 about 20 minutes after the decision to divert.
Police entered the aircraft and identified the suspicious item as a mobile phone with a faulty charger requiring its own "home made" wiring that had been connected to the shaver outlet in the lavatory and that was taped entangled in its wiring. After an announcement the owner of the device identified himself. Police released the aircraft to continue the flight.
The aircraft was able to continue the flight after about 3 hours on the ground and is estimated to reach New York with a delay of 4 hours.
The airline confirmed the aircraft diverted due to a possible security situation.
