O Boeing 767 da American Airlines, que decolou às 23h55 do Aeroporto Internacional de São Paulo, voou em círculos por meia-hora antes de retornar ao aeroporto e pousar à 0h43 desta terça-feira, de acordo com a Infraero.
O pouso ocorreu em segurança e ninguém ficou ferido. A American Airlines, segundo os passageiros, encaminhou as pessoas em cinco ônibus para um hotel na zona norte de São Paulo.
Ninguém da empresa aérea foi localizado pela reportagem nesta madrugada de terça-feira.

American Airlines Boeing 767-300, registration N342AN performing flight AA-946 (scheduled dep Jul 2nd, actual dep Jul 3rd) from Sao Paulo Guarulhos,SP (Brazil) to Dallas Ft. Worth,TX (USA), stopped the climb out of Guarulhos's runway 09L at about 7000 feet after the left hand engine (CF6) emitted a loud bang and streaks of flames were briefly visible. The crew shut the engine down and returned to Guarulhos for a safe landing on runway 09L about 20 minutes after departure, the crew requested to check the left side for fire, tower reported no fire was visible from the left engine, the crew said they also had no fire indication and continued taxi to the apron after emergency services completed their checks.
The flight was cancelled, the passengers were taken to hotels.
