Industry was brought into the classroom when representatives from engineering heavyweights visited John Cabot Academy.
Staff from Rolls-Royce, Airbus and Active Robots attended the school in Kingswood as part of a morning aimed at improving students’ understanding of the world of engineering and science.
Forty Year 9 students took part in four activities based on science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) subjects. Accompanying the industry representatives were STEM ambassadors from different engineering fields.
As well as the morning’s activities, 20 Post-16 Cabot Learning Federation students spent the afternoon programming robots.
The aim of the day was to highlight future career paths in STEM industries.
Event organiser Pete Simmons, the school’s leader of STEM, said: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the industries who took parttoday, the students have really learnt a lot. This project was about bringing industry into the classroom and giving students an amazing experience.”
