Hawaiian Airlines' inaugural non-stop flight to China went about as well as planned, with Flight 897, which was scheduled to depart at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, pushing back from the gate at Honolulu International Airport on time, airline spokeswoman Alison Croyle said.
After crossing the international date line, the flight arrived at 5:59 a.m. on April 17 in Beijing, four minutes after its scheduled arrival time of 5:55 a.m.
The airline does not disclose its passenger count, but Croyle said that the route’s prelaunch booking levels “are looking very promising, and very much in line with our outer successful launches in Asia."
The subsidiary of Hawaiian Holdings Inc. (Nasdaq: HA), is flying its Airbus A330-200 aircraft, which has capacity for 294 passengers, on the Beijing route, which will add 50,000 travel seats to both the Honolulu and Beijing markets, Croyle said.
The new route will fly three times per week,on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. As of Wednesday, a round trip coach ticket between Honolulu and Beijing, leaving on April 23 and returning on May 7 was priced at $1,194.
