Qatar Airways has become a member of oneworld, an alliance that brings together large airlines. With this, passengers of the Arab airline will have access to shared benefits with mileage accumulated on airlines like British Airways, Iberia, American Airlines, TAM, airberlin, Cathay Pacific Airways, Finnair, Japan Airlines, LAN Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Qantas and Royal Jordanian, among others.
The entry of Qatar Airways into the group also added another 20 destinations and five new countries to oneworld reach. The airline of Qatar is the second in the Arab world to become a member of the alliance. The invitation to become a member of the group was made last year. According to a oneworld press statement, with the addition of Qatar Airways, the alliance is now the leader in the Middle East.
To promote admittance of the Arab airline into the group, oneworld released on Friday (1) the “Visit Middle East” pass, with promotional flights to all the destinations reached by the alliance in the Gulf, Levant and Egypt. Flights may be on any airline flying to the region.
The pass should be bought along with an international ticket and may include three to ten destinations, with flights starting at US$ 75. Passengers may choose among 30 destination in 12 countries in the Middle East, and prices vary according to the cabin class (economy or executive) and to the distance of each route.
Airlines in oneworld fly to thousands of airports in 150 countries, transporting 480 million passengers a year and generating total revenues of US$ 140 billion a year.
