JetBlue announces southernmost destination: Peru

JetBlue will begin flying to Lima, Peru, this November, offering daily service from its Fort Lauderdale base on Airbus A320 aircraft.

The Peruvian capital will become JetBlue's southernmost destination and its fourth in South America. The other three — all in Colombia — are Bogota, Cartagena and Medellin. Overall, Lima will be JetBlue's 81st destination.

Connecting service to Lima via Fort Lauderdale will be available from several of JetBlue's other destinations, including Boston, Hartford, New York JFK, Newark Liberty, Raleigh/Durham and Washington Reagan National.

"With Lima, our first destination in Peru and the southernmost destination in the network, we are confident in our penetration of South America," Scott Laurence, JetBlue's VP of network planning, says in a release.

In the release, JetBlue notes "destinations in Latin America and the Caribbean now make up almost one-third of JetBlue's route network."

The Nov. 21 launch of the Fort Lauderdale-Lima route is subject to regulatory approval.
